EMT Training Requirements:
The Emergency Trauma Technician training program is 40 hours in length and teaches the basics of emergency medical care. Courses are taught by certified instructors and occur throughout the state. The ETT course can be modified to meet the particular needs of the students or community.

EMT Paramedic Training Requirements:
The training for paramedics is in excess of the EMT-III level and MICPs function under the direct or indirect supervision (standing orders, etc.) of a physician. In some of these communities, all pre-hospital emergency medical care is provided by Mobile Intensive Care Paramedics. In others, the MICP may act as a supervisor or EMS director.
EMT Paramedic State Requirements:

- Provide a letter from applicant’s physician verifying that, the applicant, will at all times be under the supervision of a physician
- Submit a certified copy of applicant’s paramedic education program certificate or original letter, signed by the education program director verifying completion of required training program

EMT Training Requirements:
The course consists of 140 hours of classroom time that includes hands-on skills training sessions. The student must also schedule, outside of class time, an in-hospital emergency department rotation where they will observe and assist with the assessment and management of 15 different patients. Students who successfully complete this program are immediately eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs computer based certification examination that leads to full certification at the EMT level in the State of Iowa, as well as with the National Registry of EMTs.

EMT Training Requirements:
New Mexico is the only state which does not follow the standards laid down by the National Registry of EMS to provide Emergency Medical Technician certification. It provides its own EMT certificate and license. Keeping this in mind, an EMT aspirant has to go through a state-approved EMS program at each level.
After completing the EMT program successfully; it is mandatory for the candidates to deposit the Course Completion Certificate (CCC) with the licensing application. The students have to qualify both- practical and written examinations, conducted by the state itself. The examination is based on the criteria specified by the Department of Transportation, which is considered by several other states to provide EMT certification.
Additional State Requirements:
- Age of 18 is considered to obtain EMT license, but in New Mexico, a candidate with an age of 16 can also apply for certification under parental permission.

EMT Paramedic Training Requirements:
To successfully complete the EMT-P program, the student must demonstrate competence on each of the following skills during the clinical education AND field internship educational components while in direct contact with patients. Clinical and field internship preceptors shall document the student’s performance on all of the skills required in the EMT-P program curriculum. The Level II Instructor shall review all completed clinical and field internship student evaluations and determine when the student has demonstrated competency on each of the skills.

This level of EMT education expands upon the basic level and includes advanced education in patient assessment, medical terminology and shock management, and the establishment of intravenous (IV) fluids, venipuncture to obtain blood samples, and the use of advanced airway devices, including endotracheal intubation. EMT Paramedic Training Requirements:
Paramedic is the highest level EMS certification in Utah. A Paramedic handles emergencies utilizing all Basic and Advanced Life Support equipment and skills in accordance with all behavioral objectives in the Department of Transportation, National Standard Curricula (NSC), Emergency Medical Technician—Basic 1994 and Paramedic 1998 NSC. EMT Training Requirements:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification program is designed to train an individual to function independently in a medical emergency. This course provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care and is required to progress to more advanced levels of prehospital patient care.
The course requires a minimum of 144 hours of classroom and skills instruction and 10 hours of Clinical/Field rotations for a total of 154 hours of training. Virginia certification requires successful completion of a standardized cognitive and psychomotor skills examination. This course is designed to train individuals to serve as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. This includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care as an attendant-in-charge with a basic life support ambulance service or other specialized rescue service.
Upon successfully completion of the training program, the student will be capable of performing the following functions:
(1) Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injury to assess requirements for emergency care.
(2) Administer appropriate emergency care to stabilize the patient’s condition.
(3) Lift, move, position and otherwise handle the patient in a way as to minimize discomfort and further injury.
The EMT training program is based upon the Virginia EMS Education Standards derived the USDOT National EMS Education Standards.

EMT Paramedic Training Requirements:
The Paramedic program is designed to certify the technician to the highest level of pre-hospital advanced life support care available in Virginia. This program fulfills all the requirements of the Virginia EMS Education Standards at the paramedic level.
The Paramedic program expands on the skills and subjects contained in the Enhanced and Intermediate courses with a minimum of 781 hours of instruction. Of these hours, a minimum of 136 hours is devoted to extensive clinical rotations in specialty critical care units. Additional hours may be required to complete all the required competencies. Clinical rotations of this type are not usually available for lower level providers to attend.
